I am a Police Constable number 590, presently attached to the Central Division, Hamilton Police Station.

About 1.20pm on Sunday 1st April, 1990 I was on duty as Jailer at the Hamilton Police Station.  Present in this area were Detective Sergeant McLean, Detective Constable Greene and Richardson.

As a result of instructions from Detective Sergeant McLean I brought prisoner Dwight Hatherley who was in custody in the cells to the goal area.

I heard Hatherley say to Det. Sgt. McLean, "I WANT TO SPEAK TO YOU".

Det. Sgt. McLean said to Hatherley, "I DON`T WANT TO SPEAK TO YOU ONE ON ONE, I WANT THESE OFFICERS PRESENT".

Hatherley replied, "I WANT TO SPEAK TO YOU ALONE".

Det. Sgt. McLean then said to me, "JAILER MAKE A NOTE THAT HE WANTS TO SPEAK TO ME ALONE".

About 1.22pm that same day Det. Sgt. McLean and Hatherley left the goal area and entered an interview room.  The other Officers remained in the jail (goal) area.

About 13.22pm Hatherley and Det. Sergeant McLean returned to the jail (goal) area.  I immediately returned Hatherley to his cell.  PC590 Roberts
